Playing Fields Sea Fantasy - The Pearl

Join us on Friday, September 11, at 6:00 p.m., for the Playing Fields Project at Hazen Union School. Playing Fields is a free back-to-school celebration presented by the Flynn and Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union. All are invited! Bring your friends and family to Hazen Union for an awe-inspiring evening of large-scale puppetry on the grass field, featuring Sea Fantasy – The Pearl, created by Plasticiens Volants, an exciting and dynamic street theater troupe from France.

Please arrive at 5:30 p.m. for the best experience and bring a lawn chair or blanket to kick back and take it all in! The show will conclude at around 7:15 p.m.

Start your Playing Fields day at the Hardwick Farmers Market at Atkins Field! Grab a bite from one of the Market’s three prepared-food vendors, then head on up to Hazen Union for Playing Fields.

And there’s an extra treat for OSSU students: the first 50 students who visit the Market are eligible to receive a $5 coupon for fresh fruits and veggies. Just stop by the Info/Welcome shed - the one with the painted sunflowers – between 3-6 p.m. on September 11 to claim yours.

Without a snorkel or a mask, audiences are invited to dive into an underwater world where a lonely pearl dreams of exploring beyond her shell. As she embarks on her journey, an entire aquatic community rallies around her, helping her brave crashing waves, powerful winds, and swirling tides before finding a welcoming new home. This specially adapted daytime production surrounds audiences with playful sea creatures, including squid, hermit crabs, and seahorses that weave through the crowd, alongside floating jellyfish and fish overhead, a giant octopus, a gleaming pearl nestled within its shell, and even a surprise visit from a giant eel. Performed among the audience, Sea Fantasy: The Pearl creates an immersive experience that delights children and adults alike while transforming familiar school fields into an unforgettable undersea adventure.
